The Huawei SUN2000-100KTL-M2 is a 100 kW three-phase on-grid inverter our engineering team specifies for factory, hotel and commercial rooftops across Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi. What makes it interesting is not the 100 kW headline but the 10 independent MPP trackers, which let a roof split across several orientations, pitches and shading patterns be wired as ten separate groups inside one box. If you are still sizing a system for your property, start with our calculator, look at the equipment we build systems from, and read what a project typically costs in solar cost in Phuket.

What is the SUN2000-100KTL-M2, and how does it differ from other 100 kW inverters?

The SUN2000-100KTL-M2 sits in Huawei's commercial and industrial line. It delivers 100,000 W of nominal AC active power and can push up to 110,000 VA or 110,000 W at unity power factor, on 380 V, 400 V or 480 V three-phase supplies wired 3W+(N)+PE, at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz — so it maps directly onto standard Thai building supplies. The feature that separates it from same-size competitors is the tracker count: ten MPPTs, two strings each, twenty strings in total. On a real hotel roof, where the guest wing faces one way, the back-of-house block faces another, and a lift overrun throws afternoon shade over part of the array, that means each of those situations gets its own tracker instead of dragging the whole array down. The MPPT window is wide, 200 V to 1,000 V, with a 200 V start voltage, so the unit begins exporting early in the morning and keeps working as light fades. The DC side is generously specified at 30 A per MPPT, 20 A per input and 40 A short-circuit tolerance per MPPT, which comfortably accommodates modern high-current modules. One design caveat worth knowing: the datasheet does not state a maximum PV input power figure, so DC/AC ratio has to be worked out from the per-MPPT current and voltage limits, and any oversizing plan should be confirmed with the manufacturer before it is locked in. Compare it against other options in equipment, or see how we handle design, installation and paperwork under services.

Highlights from the datasheet

  • Ten MPPTs for roofs that are not one flat plane: two strings per tracker, twenty strings total, so orientation, pitch and shading can each be isolated. A shaded group no longer pulls down the groups sitting in full sun.
  • 98.8% peak efficiency at 480 V: 98.6% at 400 V, with European efficiency — the figure that better reflects a full day of varying irradiance — at 98.4% and 98.6%. Very little of what the array makes is lost inside the box.
  • Wide 200–1,000 V MPPT window: with a 200 V start voltage and 1,100 V maximum input, string layouts can be long where the roof allows it and short where it does not, without leaving trackers idle.
  • Headroom on the DC side: 30 A per MPPT, 20 A per input and 40 A short-circuit current per MPPT, which suits today's higher-current modules without cutting back the string count.
  • Arc Fault Protection (AFCI) listed in the protection table: alongside Type II surge protection on both DC and AC, anti-islanding, DC reverse-polarity protection, DC insulation resistance detection, RCMU and a Smart String Level Disconnector — the safety set worth insisting on when people work beneath the roof.
  • IP66 and Smart Air Cooling: rated -25°C to +60°C at 0–100% humidity and up to 4,000 m altitude, which leaves real margin for a unit mounted on an exposed wall or under a metal roof.
  • Numbers your electrician needs: nominal output current is 144.4 A at 400 V rising to a 160.4 A maximum (120.3 A and 133.7 A at 480 V). Cable, breaker and AC panel sizing must follow the maximum, not the nominal.

Why this model suits Phuket

  • Humidity and salt air: the IP66 rating and 0–100% humidity operating range are the baseline requirements for equipment living on a Phuket roof through monsoon rain and coastal spray.
  • Year-round heat: a -25°C to +60°C operating window leaves genuine thermal margin for a box mounted on a west-facing wall or beneath metal roofing in April.
  • Phuket hotel roofs are rarely a single plane: guest wings, service buildings and laundry blocks sit at different heights and orientations, which is exactly the situation ten MPPTs were designed for.
  • PEA grid connection: Phuket is served by the Provincial Electricity Authority, and a system this size requires a formal grid-connection application. Pearl Solar Energy prepares and files that paperwork for clients — see PEA permits.

Who it suits

  • Factories and warehouses: large metal roofs on a 400 V three-phase supply with heavy daytime load from machinery and compressed air — the profile where an on-grid system pays back fastest.
  • Hotels and resorts: all-day air-conditioning, kitchen and hot-water load combined with multi-building, multi-orientation roofs, which plays directly to this model's tracker count.
  • Commercial buildings, retail and offices: owners cutting midday peak consumption who also want string-level diagnostics so facilities staff know immediately which group has dropped off.
  • Phased developments: a 100 kW per-unit rating makes it straightforward to grow the plant in clean increments and plan AC connection points in advance.
  • Not the right fit for: single-phase homes and pool villas, or any project intending to add LUNA2000 battery storage — this C&I model is not on the compatible-inverter list for those batteries.

Summary

The Huawei SUN2000-100KTL-M2 is a 100 kW three-phase on-grid inverter aimed squarely at large, complicated roofs rather than houses. Its real selling points are ten MPPTs across twenty strings, 98.8% peak efficiency, and a protection set that includes AFCI and a Smart String Level Disconnector. Two things the datasheet leaves open — maximum PV input power and the warranty terms for the M2 suffix — should be confirmed with the distributor before design is frozen and before any order is placed. If you would like our engineers and experienced installers to survey your roof and lay out the strings, review our services or contact us with a recent electricity bill and a roof plan.

Frequently asked questions

What are the key specifications of the Huawei SUN2000-100KTL-M2?

It is a three-phase on-grid inverter rated at 100,000 W nominal AC active power, with a maximum of 110,000 VA or 110,000 W at unity power factor. It supports 380 V, 400 V and 480 V systems wired 3W+(N)+PE at 50 Hz or 60 Hz. Nominal output current is 144.4 A at 400 V, rising to 160.4 A maximum. On the DC side there are 10 MPP trackers taking two strings each, twenty strings total, with a 200 V to 1,000 V operating window, 1,100 V maximum input and 200 V start voltage. Peak efficiency is 98.6% at 400 V and 98.8% at 480 V. The unit is transformerless, IP66 rated, Smart Air Cooled, measures 1,035 x 700 x 365 mm and weighs no more than 93 kg.

How many strings and how much PV can the SUN2000-100KTL-M2 take?

Twenty strings maximum: ten MPP trackers with two inputs each. The current limits are 30 A per MPPT and 20 A per input, with 40 A short-circuit tolerance per MPPT. On the voltage side, string open-circuit voltage at the coldest expected temperature must stay below 1,100 V, and the operating voltage should land inside the 200 V to 1,000 V window. Note that the datasheet does not publish a maximum PV input power figure, so we will not quote a maximum array size as fact. We calculate the DC/AC ratio from the per-MPPT current and voltage limits and confirm any oversizing plan with the manufacturer or distributor before finalising the design.

What warranty comes with the SUN2000-100KTL-M2?

The datasheet itself does not state a warranty period. The publicly available HUAWEI Smart PV Products Warranty and Service Conditions document for APAC, dated 2021, gives five years for commercial and utility three-phase inverters and lists the SUN2000-100KTL-M1 code, but it does not cover the M2 suffix directly. We therefore do not present that five-year figure as fact for this model, and we recommend asking your distributor for the current warranty document applicable in Thailand before signing. Also confirm when the clock starts: Huawei's document counts from the 180th day after shipment or from the date a service request is received, whichever comes first.

SUN2000-100KTL-M2 vs SUN2000-115KTL-M2 — what is the difference?

Physically they are the same box: 1,035 x 700 x 365 mm, no more than 93 kg, ten MPPTs, twenty strings, a 200 V to 1,000 V MPPT window, and identical 98.6% at 400 V / 98.8% at 480 V peak efficiency. Three things differ. Output: the 100 delivers 100,000 W with 110,000 VA maximum, the 115 delivers 115,000 W with 125,000 VA maximum. Grid voltages: the 100 lists 380 V, 400 V and 480 V, while the 115 lists only 400 V and 480 V. Protection: the 100 model's table includes Arc Fault Protection (AFCI); the 115 datasheet table does not list that item. If your specification requires AFCI, that decides it.

Is the SUN2000-100KTL-M2 a good choice for a Phuket hotel or factory?

For a commercial property with a three-phase supply and substantial daytime load, yes — it is the class of inverter we would specify. The practical checks come first: the incoming supply and main cabling must handle up to 160.4 A per unit at 400 V, the roof must carry the array, and there must be a well-ventilated wall position for a unit weighing up to 93 kg. Consumption history determines the right system size. On the paperwork side, Phuket falls under the Provincial Electricity Authority, so a grid-connection application is required. Our engineers and experienced installers handle the site survey, string design, installation and PEA submission as one package.
